The 2023 Cougar Band
This was a wonderful year where the CCHS Band attempted to modernize with a new-age show exhibiting fundamentals of storytelling while playing the "classics." Our music was a mixture of many melodies and samples from classical works and modern film scores.
We opened the show with "Brahms Lullaby." As the students crept out toward a central character, the band also prepared to play "In the Hall of the Mountain King." Students continued with difficult drill moves while playing difficult music. The ending of the first movement ended with the closing section of "I Dreamed a Dream."
The Second Movement opened with a sousaphone duet performing the main theme from "Hall of the Mountain King."
The Third Movement constantly shifted back and forth from the movie theme "Psycho" & "Night on Bald Mountain."
The Final Movement consisted of the entirety of "I Dreamed a Dream."
In this show, the central guard character explored her personal dream after reading a book of scary poems. We used an A.I. child's voice to read the poem that was generated and compiled from multiple A.I. poem generations. As she fell asleep, her dreams quickly turned to nightmares that she felt the need of escaping. After three movements of frantically trying to escape this lucidity, she finally found peace and happiness as she joined the colorguard for "I Dreamed a Dream." She finally woke up to an alarm clock in her bed as the "monsters" faded away.
